Programme to feature a selection of songs by American composers including Tuxedo Junction and the Oscar nominated (from the 1941 film Sun Valley Serenade) Chattanooga Choo Choo, both made famous by Glenn Miller And His Orchestra.  We will also be performing the Oscar winning song Moon River, taken from the 1961 film Breakfast At Tiffany’s.

The Latin American song Sway, made popular by performances by Dean Martin and Michael Bublé will also feature and we will be coming right up to date with the classic jazz standard It Don’t Mean A Thing by Duke Ellington, recently revived by the 2014 duet performed by Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett.

We will also be going Mad About Mozart in which we will pack 15 facts about Mozart in under two minutes sung to the tune of his famous Symphony No. 40 celebrating over 250 years of performing Mozart!


Guest Soloist

Our guest soloist will be flautist Gregory Mitchell.

Gregory Mitchell (Flautist)

Gregory received awards to study with Averil Williams and Peter Lloyd at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and Edward Beckett at The National Centre for Orchestral Studies.

His performing career has since included live and recorded appearances on BBC Radio and Television, West End shows and numerous recital, chamber and concerto engagements throughout the United Kingdom and abroad.  As a freelance orchestral player he has performed a wide variety of repertoire and styles throughout the years and he has also participated in many educational workshops most notably with his flute quartet Tutti Flutti.

Teaching has always been an important part of Gregory’s career and he currently holds positions at both Harrow School and North London Collegiate School where in addition to individual lessons his work includes coaching various instrumental groups.  He has transcribed many works for flute ensembles and is also an accomplished saxophonist.
